forget the girls only parties and the discounts at the fashion boutiques. here''s a women''s day initiative which promises to make a real difference. today, raj mutual trust is launching `support remarriage for women with children''; the trust will collect data of women, widowed or divorced with children, with the help of various voluntary organisations in the city and then help them to find suitable marriage partners. the trust was started five years ago by a b rajsekkar with the aim offering everyone the warmth and security of marriage. "in my opinion, divorced women have to face many, many hardships. if we can help some of these women with children to get married, we would have eased their burden and made some contribution to society." to be on the trust''s list all one has to do is to pay rs 100 as a registration fee and rs 500 which goes towards placing advertisements in newspapers. the trust also handles the replies. rajsekkar has managed to get more than 500 divorcees remarried, but the number of women with children getting married is marginal, he says. "the reason being some of these women are reluctant to change their status, others have responsibilities, including their children or other dependant family members. some are unsure if the man will accept their children. but i have come across men who have happily married women with children," says rajsekkar. age again is not a criterion for remarriage, he insists. if one wants to get married one should just go ahead do it. the aim is to get a companion for life, says rajsekkar. initially, he used to involve couples he had united to matchmake for others. but that didn''t quite work out. sonow the trust encourages couples to help with other charity work. counselling couples whose relationships are in trouble is another area the trust focuses on. for details, call 5355703.
